Biography

Founding member Doug Atkinson practices law in Business Law, Sports and Entertainment Law, Personal Injury Law, and general civil litigation, and represents clients in a wide number of civil and appellate fields, including: real estate matters, contract disputes, construction defect disputes, investment fraud, dangerous products, property, roadways and other accidents, trespass of real property, employment law defense, defense of ADA claims involving restaurants, tax and audit matters, wills and trusts, probate, divorce and family law, and many other types of lawsuits and claims.

Doug graduated Magna Cum Laude, with election to the national Phi Beta Kappa honor society, with a B.A. Philosophy, Minor in Classics, from Saint Michael’s College in Vermont. Doug received his Juris Doctorate from the University of San Francisco School of Law, where he received the CALI Award for top examinee in Securities Regulation. While in law school, Doug worked with the research attorneys’ office at Marin Superior Court, and in the Appellate Division of the Superior Court. Doug practiced with two San Francisco Bay Area law firms before establishing Atkinson & Associates.

Doug studied with Learning as Leadership in the late 1990s and early 2000s, graduating from their One Year leadership development program in 2000 alongside business teams from top companies across the world. In college, Doug enjoyed studying ancient Greek and Latin languages, as well as mathematics and philosophy. Doug lives in San Francisco with his wife, son and two daughters, and enjoys traveling the great state of California in his free time, as well as bicycling.

Doug was the son of an engineer who contracted cancer and died as a result of his exposure to toxic chemicals while working for a major U.S. corporation. Doug uses this life experience to help relate to and understand his clients, and the importance of proper legal redress.
